Dr. Hunter is passionate about gastroenterology because it allows him to solve complex health problems that directly affect his patients’ daily lives. He believes in combining advanced medical expertise with a compassionate, patient-centered approach, ensuring that every patient feels heard, supported, and confident throughout their care while working toward improved digestive health.
Dr. Hunter grew up in Atlanta and earned his undergraduate degree with Distinction from the University of Virginia in 1995. He went on to receive his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1999 before completing his Internal Medicine residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2002. He later completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2005. Following his fellowship training, Dr. Hunter joined Gastro Savannah in 2005 and has now been caring for patients in Savannah and throughout the Southeast for more than two decades. Licensed in both Georgia and South Carolina, he has extensive experience treating a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions. While he enjoys all aspects of gastroenterology, his particular clinical interests include colonoscopy screenings, GERD, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal cancers, and liver disease.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hunter enjoys spending time with his family and is married with two children and a bird dog. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, traveling, bird hunting, and hiking.
