Isaac E. Perry, D.O.

Dr. Perry is an interventional gastroenterologist and a recognized pioneer in the field of advanced endoscopy. As the driving force behind the development and leadership of the Advanced Endoscopy program at St. Joseph’s/Candler, he has been instrumental in bringing state-of-the-art, minimally invasive procedural care to the region.

“I chose interventional endoscopy because it allows me to solve complex clinical challenges through endoscopic innovation and technical precision, offering patients immediate life- changing, minimally invasive alternatives to traditional surgery.” -Dr. Perry

Dr. Perry specializes in complex interventional procedures, including ERCP, diagnostic and therapeutic EUS, luminal stenting/suturing, and the management of pancreaticobiliary diseases and gastrointestinal oncology. His practice is at the forefront of endoluminal surgery, utilizing advanced techniques to treat complex conditions through the scope that previously required traditional surgery. A key focus of his practice is third space endoscopy. Dr. Perry performed the first POEM (Per-Oral Endoscopic Myotomy) procedure at St. Joseph’s/Candler and continues to lead the way in procedures such as ESD (Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection). These innovations provide highly effective, incisionless treatments for disorders like achalasia and gastroparesis, as well as the precise removal of large pre-cancerous and early cancerous lesions. Furthermore, Dr. Perry has expertise in bariatric endoscopy. By utilizing advanced tools like endoscopic suturing, he provides specialized care for the management of procedural and surgical complications, as well as endoscopic weight loss interventions, such as transoral outlet reduction (TORe), for patients who have regained weight following a gastric bypass. Dr. Perry was the first to perform the TORe procedure in Savannah at St. Joseph’s/Candler and currently the only physician performing the procedure.

Dr. Perry’s academic journey began at the University of Toledo, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in biology. He earned his medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in South Carolina before completing his internal medicine residency at the Mercer University School of Medicine/Memorial Health University Medical Center. He completed his Gastroenterology & Hepatology fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia, serving as Chief Fellow, and subsequently finished a dedicated fellowship in Advanced Endoscopy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Additionally, he has been mentored by world experts in the field of third space endoscopy.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Perry is a devoted husband and father, who enjoys spending time with his wife, their three daughters, and their Irish doodle, Hudson. He enjoys being a part of Community Bible Church as well as learning and growing with fellow Christians by hosting a community group. A Michigan native, he is a passionate supporter of the Detroit Lions, Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers. In his free time, he is a musician and enjoys playing both the piano and guitar. He also enjoys reading fiction and can be found reading between cases and when his girls (finally) go to bed.
